Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe in Boston's South End Is Closing

An iconic dining spot in the South End of Boston is closing its doors after nearly 90 years in business.

A Twitter post from @turkeyhash (the restaurant's Twitter page) indicates that Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe on Columbus Avenue is shutting down, with the post saying that "We will be closing at the end of June. We would like to thank all of our friends, family, and customers for 87 years of great memories." Charlie's is a landmark diner and coffee shop that is known in part for its breakfasts; a number of well-known people have eaten at the restaurant, including a variety of singers, politicians, and sports figures.

[June 27 update: According to its Facebook page, Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe will be closing its doors for good tomorrow (Saturday, June 28).]

The address for this soon-to-close eatery in the South End is: Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe, 429 Columbus Avenue, Boston, MA, 02116.
