According to an interview within the Eater site (which was referred to in an Eater Boston post), Pepe's Pizza is looking to open between three and five shops in the Boston Metro area, including the one that is slated to come to Chestnut Hill this fall. The interview, which is with Gary Bimonte (one of Frank Pepe's grandchildren), indicates that this is part of a larger expansion that could eventually include 20 to 30 shops in the Northeast, with new outlets possibly coming at a rate of one every 18 months. It is not yet known where the Boston-area locations might be, though it sounds like they may be focusing on the suburbs, especially near universities.
Pepe's, which first started out in New Haven in 1925, is known for its coal-fired pizzas that some food critics--and others--consider to be the best in New England.
