Mumbai Chopstix to Open in the Back Bay

A 60-seat Indian-Chinese cafe that will have both indoor and outdoor dining is coming to the Back Bay of Boston later this month. According to a press release from Chris Lyons Communications that was sent to us by Fun and Fearless in Beantown, Mumbai Chopstix will be opening on Newbury Street by the end of March, moving into the space where The Jewel of Newbury used to be (between Fairfield Street and Gloucester Street). [April 12, 15 updates: According to Grub Street Boston, Mumbai Chopstix is planning on opening this Thursday (April 15), though late word has come in that they may not be opening until Monday, April 19.]

Mumbai Chopstix, which will be run by the group behind such restaurants as Bukhara in Jamaica Plain, Diva in Somerville, Mela in the South End, and several other dining spots and stores, will feature dishes that combine Chinese and Indian seasonings, ingredients, and cooking techniques. A few items that look to be on the menu include burnt ginger lemon pepper soup, five-spice salt and pepper squid, tandoori chicken spring rolls, cauliflower dumplings with sweet and sour sauce, and for dessert, banana toffee and date pancakes. Mumbai Chopstix will also offer beer, wine, and cocktails.

The address for this upcoming restaurant in the Back Bay will be: Mumbai Chopstix, 254 Newbury Street, Boston, MA, 02116.
