Jake's Dixie Roadhouse in Waltham Is Closing

Waltham's "Restaurant Row" is about to lose one of its dining spots, as a BBQ joint on Moody Street is closing at the end of the month.

According to The Daily News Tribune, Jake's Dixie Roadhouse will be shutting its doors for good on May 31 after being in business for 10 years. The restaurant is closing due to family health issues. [May 31 update: A phone call to Jake's has confirmed that today is indeed their last day in business.]

Jake's has gotten high praise for its barbecue over the years, including the Phantom Gourmet rating the place the best barbecue joint in New England, and Boston Citysearch awarding it best barbecue three years in a row, according to the article. Some of the items on the menu at Jake's include chili, gumbo, fried chicken livers, baby back ribs, catfish bites, chicken fried steak, pulled pork, brisket, and Kansas City burnt ends.

The Daily News Tribune mentions that the space that Jake's currently occupies may continue to be a restaurant, though no other details are known at the time (the owner of the restaurant says that Jake's has indeed been sold).

The address for the soon-to-close Jake's is: Jake's Dixie Roadhouse, 220 Moody Street, Waltham, MA, 02453.
