Sports Depot in Allston Closing; Regina's Taking Its Place

A sports bar in Allston that has been in existence for more than 20 years is shutting its doors soon, and a popular local pizza chain is going to be moving into the space.

According to the Boston Herald, the Sports Depot on Cambridge Street will be closing down as soon as a liquor license transfer goes through, and in its place will be a new location of Pizzeria Regina, which could be opening sometime in September, the Herald says.

The Sports Depot first opened in the latter part of 1988 and has since been rated best sports bar in Boston by many publications and websites, including the Phantom Gourmet and Men's Health Magazine, according to the bar's website. Known in part for its tremendous number of TVs for watching sporting events, The Sports Depot also has featured pub grub and classic American fare along with beer, wine, and liquor.

the Boston Herald mentions that this will be the 21st Regina's to open in New England, with all of the locations being in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The new one that is coming to Allston may have a capacity of more than 300 and will have 7,000 square feet of space. The original Pizzeria Regina is located on Thacher Street in the North End of Boston and is considered by many to have the best pizza in the city.'
