Fire Heavily Damages DeLuca's Market on Boston's Beacon Hill

A four-alarm fire hit Beacon Hill yesterday, causing extensive damage to a local market that has been in business for more than 100 years.

According to the Boston Globe and a number of other sources, DeLuca's Market on Charles Street burned for several hours yesterday while firefighters attempted to put out the fire, which began in the basement. Damage estimates are somewhere around $1 million, according to some sources. There were no serious injuries.

The Globe article states that the owner plans to reopen DeLuca's, which had been hit by a fire nearly 30 years ago and subsequently rebuilt.

A second DeLuca's Market can be found on nearby Newbury Street in the Back Bay.
