A little more than two years after first opening for business, a high-end restaurant that was opened in Boston's North End by one of the top chefs in France is closing its doors.
According to both Devra First of the Boston Globe and the Grub Street Boston site, Sensing at the Fairmont Battery Wharf is going to be shutting down. Sensing, which was opened by Guy Martin, a chef who has received three stars by The Michelin Guide, is apparently closing at least in part because Martin is looking at other projects outside of Boston, according to Grub Street. The site also mentions that a new Italian and Mediterranean restaurant called Aragosta will move into the Sensing space this spring, with the chef at Topper's within The Wauwinet on Nantucket being behind the new place. It appears that Aragosta will be a casual dining spot that will be serving regional dishes.
[April 7 update: A phone call placed to the Fairmont Battery Wharf has confirmed that Aragosta is opening on Tuesday, April 12.]
Sensing first opened in January of 2009, featuring such dishes as bouillabaisse de Marseille, roasted chicken breast, and beef strip loin served with sauteed fingerling potatoes and mushrooms.
The address for Sensing (and the new Aragosta) is 3 Battery Wharf, Boston, MA 02109.
