It looks like a new Cuban restaurant could be opening in Belmont by the upcoming summer.
According to the Belmont Patch, Gustazo Cafe is hoping to open in July on Belmont Street, taking over the space vacated by the Select Cafe, which closed this past February. The article mentions that the folks behind the upcoming eatery have gotten approval for the place by the Zoning Board of Appeals, though they still need to acquire a common victualer's license before they can move on with their plans to open.
Based on information from the Belmont Patch article, menu items at Gustazo Cafe may include pan con lechon (pork roast sandwich), a Cuban-style hamburger with beef and pork, shredded beef and pork dishes, chickpeas fritters, fried plantains, guava juice, and coconut smoothies. The restaurant, which will also have a coffee bar within the space, will likely be open for breakfast and lunch only.
[September 23 update: According to a poster on the Chowhound site, it looks like Gustazo Cafe is now open.]
The address for this new Cuban restaurant in Belmont is: Gustazo Cafe, 289 Belmont Street, Belmont, MA, 02478.
