The 2011 James Beard Foundation Awards have been picked, and the chef/owner of an upscale bistro in Cambridge is among the winners.
According to Grub Street New York, Tony Maws of Craigie on Main has been picked as best chef for the Northeast. Maws, who was the only chef in New England to win an award this year, first opened Craigie Street Bistrot outside of Harvard Square nearly 10 years ago, eventually moving to
Main Street between Central Square and Kendall Square in 2008. His restaurant has received many accolades, including from GQ Magazine, the Food Network, and Food & Wine Magazine, according to the restaurant's website.
Other James Beard winners for 2011 include Michael Solomonoz of Zahav in Philadelphia, Gabrielle Hamilton of Prune in Manhattan, and Angela Pinkerton of Eleven Madison Park in Manhattan.
