It looks like a craft cocktail bar will be coming to a hotel in Kenmore Square, moving into the space where an upscale lounge had been until closing last year.
According to Grub Street Boston, Hawthorne will be opening within the Hotel Commonwealth, taking over the former Foundation Lounge spot. (This subject first came up on the Chowhound site a few days ago, with Grub Street confirming it.) Grub Street states that the folks from Island Creek and Eastern Standard--both of which reside in the hotel--are behind the new spot, which will be a "high-touch craft cocktail bar" with a "developed cheese program and diverse small plates."
The Foundation Lounge closed its doors in the spring of 2010, a few months before Island Creek Oyster Bar opened within the hotel. Eastern Standard has been in existence since 2005, a couple of years after the opening of the Hotel Commonwealth.
Hawthorne may be opening within the year, according to Grub Street.
[November 21 update: According to BostonTweet, it looks like Hawthorne will be opening today.]
The address for Hawthorne is 500 Commonwealth Avenue, which is on the eastern edge of Kenmore Square.
