A Vermont-based ice cream company that gives its frozen treats rather quirky names is coming out with a new ice cream flavor, and the name of this one will be one of its oddest yet.
According to the NY Daily News, Ben & Jerry's is going to produce an ice cream called "Schweddy Balls," with the name coming from a 1998 Saturday Night Live skit that starred actor Alec Baldwin as Pete Schweddy, a baker who made such items as popcorn balls, rum balls, and Schweddy Balls. The article mentions that Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls will include vanilla ice cream with fudge-covered rum balls and milk chocolate malt balls.
Baldwin himself appears to be happy about the introduction of this new flavor, saying that "thanks to Ben & Jerry's, the goodness of the Schweddy family recipe won't go with me to the great beyond."
Ben & Jerry's, which is based in South Burlington (and has a factory in nearby Waterbury), first started out in a gas station in Burlington in 1978. Today, the company has locations across the United States as well as in a number of countries around the globe.
