A national chain of supermarkets that focuses on natural and organic foods has just opened a new location in Boston after many months of controversy.
According to Grub Street Boston, Whole Foods Market is now open in the Hyde Square section of Jamaica Plain, moving into the space where Hi Lo Foods had been for nearly a half century. There has been much opposition to the opening of Whole Foods since plans were first announced nearly a year ago, with protestors being upset for a number of reasons, including the upscale market's higher prices, the closing of a neighborhood grocery store, and the gentrification of this Boston neighborhood.
Whole Foods has approximately 20 locations in the Boston area, including three others within the Boston city limits (Beacon Hill, near Symphony Hall, and Brighton).
The address for the new Whole Foods in Jamaica Plain is: Whole Foods Market, 450 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain, MA, 02130. The website for Whole Foods can be found at http://wholefoodsmarket.com/
