Boston Chops (a New Steakhouse) Is Opening in Boston's South End

It looks like the folks behind a pair of restaurants in the Back Bay of Boston and Dorchester are going to be opening a third spot, with this one being a steakhouse in Boston's South End.

According to food writer MC Slim JB (via the Chowhound site), the Union Park Neighborhood Association states that the people who run Deuxave on Commonwealth Avenue in the Back Bay and dbar on Dorchester Avenue in Dorchester have leased the space on Washington Street where Ginger Park (and before that, Banq) had been, and they hope to open a steakhouse within the space. At this point in time, there does not appear to be a name for the upcoming restaurant, nor does there appear to be a planned opening date; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

[February 8 update: According to BosGuy, the name of the new steakhouse coming to the South End will be "Boston Chops."]

[February 10 update: According to Universal Hub, the Boston Licensing Board cannot give Boston Chops a liquor license at the present time because it currently has no licenses left to hand out. Therefore, plans appear to be on hold for Boston Chops for the time being, as the purchase of a liquor license on the open market would cost approximately $300,000, adding greatly to the expense of renovating the space, according to Universal Hub. (Thanks to Eater Boston for bringing this story to our attention.)]

[May 23 update: Plans could be back on track for Boston Chops, as Universal Hub reports that the Columbus Cafe has offered to sell its liquor license to the place. (The city of Boston still needs to vote on this, however.)]

[November 7 update: Boston Chops is now on track to open sometime this winter, and in fact had a preview dinner on Monday night at the home of Brian Piccini, one of the people behind the upcoming place. The Boston Herald also says what will be on the menu at Boston Chops, with "steakhouse classics" offered (filet mignon, rib-eye) along with a focus on "underutilized cuts," including hangar steak, skirt steak, and short ribs. (Thanks to Eater Boston for bringing this to our attention.)]

[February 26, 2013 update: Grub Street Boston states that Boston Chops is planning to open next week.]

[March 4, 2013 update: Chris Coombs of Boston Chops says (via his Facebook page) that the restaurant opens to the public today.]

Deuxave first opened in September of 2010, bringing to the Back Bay a place to get a variety of New American and French-influenced dishes. dbar, a chic restaurant, lounge, and nightclub, started out in 2005.

The address for this new steakhouse in the South End is 1375 Washington Street, Boston, MA, 02118.
