George Howell Coffee Opens in Newtonville

The person behind a chain of Boston-area coffee shops that was eventually sold off has decided to get back into the retail business, opening a new coffee shop in Newtonville.

According to Boston Magazine's Chowder blog, George Howell Coffee has soft-opened on Walnut Street, moving into the space where Taste Coffee Shop used to be. George Howell is known in part for The Coffee Connection, a group of coffee shops that started out in the 1970s and grew to 24 locations before he sold them to Starbucks in 1994. After the sale of The Coffee Connection, Howell concentrated on wholesaling, selling his Terroir line of coffee beans to restaurants and food purveyors all over the Boston area.

The Chowder blog mentions that George Howell Coffee offers an array of coffees, along with bags of Terrior beans and special edition roasts, and the shop will also serve some food, including crepes and breakfast panini.

The address for this new coffee shop in Newtonville is: George Howell Coffee, 311 Walnut Street, Newtonville, MA, 02460. Their Facebook page can be found at http://www.facebook.com/pages/George-Howell-Coffee/338197786200680
