A former sous chef at one of Boston's best-known restaurants is going to be opening a place of his own.
Eater Boston is reporting that Alex Crabb plans to open Asta in the Back Bay neighborhood of the city with his girlfriend. Crabb, who worked at L'Espalier for a number of years (and more recently has been involved with The Hawthorne in Kenmore Square and Atwood's Tavern in Cambridge), is looking to have tasting menus at the new eatery, with ingredients coming from Apple Street Farm in Essex (which is owned by L'Espalier's Frank McClelland) and Sparrow Arc Farm in Unity, ME, according to the article. Asta looks to be a refined yet comfortable spot, with a capacity of just under 50.
Expect a possible September or October opening for Asta.
[August 28 update: Boston Magazine is reporting that Asta will be located at 47 Mass. Ave., which is where 47 Pizza + Pasta had been until closing in June. The article also says that the restaurant may be opening sometime in October. (Thanks to Eater Boston for bringing this to our attention.)]
[January 4, 2013 update: A more recent article from Eater Boston indicates that Asta could be opening as early as January 16.]
[January 18, 2013 update: UrbanDaddy mentions that Asta is planning to have a soft-opening on Tuesday (January 22).]
