Potbelly Sandwich Shop Is Opening in Braintree

A Chicago-based chain of sub shops continues its expansion into the Boston area, with a new location soon opening south of the city.

According to their website, Potbelly Sandwich Shop is planning to open in Braintree, moving into a space on Forbes Road that is across the street from the South Shore Plaza. Once it opens, the new sandwich shop in Braintree will join others in Boston's Downtown Crossing and at Logan Airport. More locations are planned as well, including a shop at One Federal Street in the Financial District of Boston and possibly outlets in Cambridge and Burlington.

[February 28 update: It appears that the Braintree location of Potbelly is getting ready to open, as their Facebook page says that they are having an "Oven Warming" party on Monday, March 4, teaming up with Kyleigh's Cure to help raise money for galactosemia research. (Website at http://www.kyleighscure.com/)]

Potbelly offers sandwiches labeled "originals," "bigs," and "skinnys," with turkey, ham, roast beef, and tuna being a few options.

The address for this new sub shop in Braintree is: Potbelly Sandwich Shop, 30 Forbes Road (Retail D/ Suite 4), Braintree, MA, 02184. The website for the chain is at http://www.potbelly.com/

I was in DC last week and noticed several different locations of this chain, which I had never heard of. If the sandwiches are good and reasonably priced, I suppose they could be big competition to Al's. Now that I am no longer working in downtown Boston, I really miss Al's and Viga. My new boss insists on eating at City Feed every day and their sandwiches, while good, are overpriced.
