The Brookline TAB is reporting that Whole Foods Market plans to open April 15 in Brookline, with the grocery store moving into the space on Beacon Street where a location of Johnnie's Foodmaster had been. (The Johnnie's chain closed down last November.) This will be the first of several Whole Foods to take over former locations of Johnnie's, with more planned for Arlington, Charlestown, Melrose, Somerville (Beacon Street), and South Weymouth over the coming months.
[April 8 update: According to a post on their Facebook page, the opening date for the new Whole Foods in Brookline has been moved up, with the market now planning to open this Thursday (April 11). The post also says that this will be the chain's "smallest location in the United States," with 8,000 square feet of space and approximately 75 employees.]
Currently, approximately 20 locations of Whole Foods can be found in the Boston area, including ones in Beacon Hill, the Symphony Hall area, Brighton, and Jamaica Plain.
