Update: Shan-A-Punjab Is Opening in the Cognac Bistro Space in Brookline

[Ed note: This article was updated on December 2 to reflect a slight name change for the new spot--plus confirmation that it has opened.]

Last week we reported that a French bistro in Brookline was getting ready to close, and now we have learned that the folks behind an Indian dining spot in Quincy are going to be opening a second location in the soon-to-be-vacated space.

Eater Boston is reporting (via the Brookline TAB) that Sher-A-Punjab is planning to open a new restaurant where Cognac Bistro currently resides, with the latter restaurant possibly closing as early as the end of business hours Sunday, though apparently no later than the end of this month. Once it opens, expect the spot to offer both classic and modern Indian fare, with the eatery being open for lunch and dinner daily.

[September 23 update: A Chowhound poster confirms that yesterday was indeed the last day for Cognac Bistro.]

[December 2 update: According to a new Chowhound post, the new restaurant in Brookline from the people behind Sher-A-Punjab in Quincy is now open, and the name is apparently a bit different from the original; it is called Shan-A-Punjab.]

Sher-A-Punjab first opened on Hancock Street in Quincy Center in March of 2012, taking over the former Blue22 Bar and Grille space.

The address for Cognac Bistro (and the upcoming restaurant from the Sher-A-Punjab folks) is 455 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA, 02446.
