Barrio Cantina in Boston's Fenway Neighborhood Has Closed

Last week we reported that a Mexican restaurant near the Brookline/Boston border had closed. Now we have learned that another Mexican spot nearby has shut its doors as well.

According to a poster on the Chowhound site, Barrio Cantina in Boston's Fenway neighborhood is no longer in business, having closed this past Sunday. A call placed to the restaurant confirms this (though the message says "Sunday. December 12"--it can be assumed that they meant Sunday, January 12).

Local chef and restaurateur Michael Schlow opened Barrio Cantina last February, replacing Happy's Bar & Kitchen, which he also owned. The Mexican eatery offered such items as tacos, enchiladas, and quesadillas, as well as tequila and margaritas. It is not yet known what might go into the former Barrio Cantina space, nor is it known whether Schlow will keep the space.

On Friday, it was learned that Mission Cantina on Beacon Street in Brookline had also shuttered.

The address for this now-closed restaurant in the Fenway was: Barrio Cantina, 1363 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, 02215.

Thanks to local food writer MC Slim JB for bringing this to our attention
