Steve's Greek Cuisine in the Back Bay of Boston Has Closed

One of the last of the old-school restaurants on Newbury Street in Boston's Back Bay has closed its doors.

Universal Hub is reporting (via Bettlebrox) that Steve's Greek Cuisine is no longer in operation, with a note out front saying that its last day was this past Sunday due to the fact that it lost its lease. The note includes the following message: "We wish to thank you for all your valued patronage to our family business. We hope you continue to enjoy Steve's Greek at Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall. Sincerely, The Kourtidis Family"

[April 2 update: The Boston Business Journal reports that the four-story building in which Steve's was housed--and was owned by the family behind the restaurant--was sold this week for $7.25 million to the Charlestown-based Columbus South LLC.]

Steve's, which has been on Newbury Street since the 1980s, featured Greek dishes such as grilled octopus, avgolemono soup, falafel, mousaka, swordfish steak, souvlaki, gyros, baked lamb, stuffed grape leaves, and pasticho.

The address for this now-closed restaurant in the Back Bay was: Steve's Greek Cuisine, 316 Newbury Street, Boston, MA, 02115.
