Pepe's Pizza to Open in The Fireplace Space in Brookline's Washington Square

A few months ago, we reported that a famous New Haven pizzeria was planning to open somewhere in the Boston area. Now we have confirmed a rumor that we had heard earlier from @commsensesports--that it will move into the Brookline space where another restaurant currently resides.

A press release sent this morning indicates that Pepe's Pizza will open on Beacon Street in Washington Square, taking over the space where The Fireplace has been for 13 years. This will be the first location of the pizzeria to open in the Boston area, with other locations all being in Connecticut, including New Haven (where it first started out in 1925), Danbury, Fairfield, Manchester, Mohegan Sun, and West Hartford.

The release says that chef/owner Jim Solomon will close The Fireplace at the end of the year and will focus on his catering operation.

The address for The Fireplace (and upcoming Pepe's) is 1634 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA, 02446.

[July 30 update: An article from Eater Boston states that the new location of Pepe's in Brookline will have a coal-fired oven (which, as EB points out, is "absolutely essential" when it comes to Pepe's pizzas), and that it plans to open in the summer of 2015.]
