Jimmy John's May Be Coming to Waltham

It looks like an Illinois-based chain of gourmet sandwich shops is continuing its expansion through the Boston area, with plans for a suburban location now being announced.

The Waltham News Tribune is reporting that Jimmy John's is looking to open in Waltham, moving into the space within a shopping complex on Winter Street where a location of Boloco had once been looking at (those plans fell through a couple of years ago). If all goes as planned and it does open in Waltham, the new Jimmy John's would join an existing location at the Flats on D apartment complex on D Street in South Boston as well as upcoming outlets on Park Drive in the Audubon Circle section of Boston, Beverly Street across from North Station, and Western Avenue in Allston-Brighton. [Ed note: All three of these are now open as of April 23, 2015.]

Jimmy John's first opened in Charleston, IL in 1983 and now has nearly 2,000 locations in the United States.

The address for this proposed sandwich shop in Waltham is 475 Winter Street, Waltham, MA, 02451. The website for the chain is at https://www.jimmyjohns.com/

[April 23, 2015 update: A new article in The Waltham News Tribune mentions that the proposed Jimmy John's in Waltham is one step closer to opening, as the city's Ordinance & Rules Committee approved of a special permit for the eatery. (It still needs to go to the full council for a final vote before the green light is given.)]
