Saladworks Declares Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

A Pennsylvania-based restaurant chain that has been looking to expand into the Boston area for years--and which recently announced an upcoming location in the heart of the city--has declared bankruptcy.

According to an article in Nation's Restaurant News, Saladworks filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today, with the plan apparently being to either restructure or sell the business as it deals with lawsuits from the minority owner of the company as well as its bank. The post says that the 100+ locations of the chain will not be affected by the filing, with the company looking to quickly emerge from bankruptcy.

[June 19 update: A new article from Nation's Restaurant News states that Saladworks has been purchased out of bankruptcy by New York-based Centre Lane Partners, with Paul Steck (who has been with the chain for 12 years) becoming the new president and CEO.]

Currently, the only Boston-area location of Saladworks can be found at the CambridgeSide Galleria in East Cambridge, though another one is coming to Tremont Street in Boston [ed note--now open] near where it meets Cambridge Street and Court Street by Government Center.
