Just Salad Is Opening at The Street Chestnut Hill

A New York-based salad chain continues to expand into the Greater Boston area, with a new one on the way to a mixed-use development a few miles west of the city.

According to a press release, Just Salad is planning to open at The Street Chestnut Hill, joining others locally in Boston's Financial District and Fort Point along with Cambridge Crossing in East Cambridge, Burlington, and Needham. Based on those locations, expect to see such options as salads, salad wraps, warm bowls, soups, and smoothies, including a rotating list of seasonal items.

If all goes as planned, the new location of Just Salad at The Street Chestnut Hill will open sometime this fall.

A New York-based salad chain has opened another location in the local area, with this one coming to a growing development in East Cambridge.

According to a press release, Just Salad is now open at Cambridge Crossing, moving into a space near where Jacobs Street and N First Street meet. The new outlet joins others locally in Boston's Financial District and Fort Point along with Burlington and Needham, and it offers such options as salads, salad wraps, warm bowls, soups, and smoothies.

Just Salad was first established in 2006 with a location opening on Park Avenue in Manhattan.

A New York-based salad chain has expanded to a second location in the Greater Boston area.

According to a press release, Just Salad has soft-opened in Needham, moving into a space on Highland Avenue just west of the Route 128/95 intersection. The new outlet--which will have a grand opening celebration this week--joins another on Franklin Street in Boston's Financial District which opened last fall, with the new spot offering such options as salads, warm bowls, salad wraps, soups, smoothies, and more, and it includes both indoor and outdoor seating.

ToppSalad in Beverly Has Closed

A North Shore dining spot that focused on salads, bowls, and wraps has shut down.

According to a source, ToppSalad in Beverly has closed, with a Facebook post from the Rantoul Street place saying the following:

To our wonderful customers: We regret to inform you that ToppSalad's last day will be this Friday, February 23d [from 11-3]. We wish the best of luck to everyone we've had the pleasure to serve! Thank you so much for your patronage over the time we've been in Beverly.

ToppSalad first started out in Danvers in 2015, moving to its home in downtown Beverly in 2021.

A New York-based salad chain is expanding to the local area, as it looks to open an outlet in the heart of Boston.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Just Salad is planning to open on Franklin Street in the Financial District, with a sign for the place being shown out front. Based on its other locations in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, Illinois, and Dubai, expect to see salads, warm bowls, salad wraps, soups, smoothies, and more at the upcoming spot.

Sweetgreen Is Opening at Arsenal Yards in Watertown

A growing chain of dining spots known for its healthy options is opening yet another location in the Greater Boston area, with this one coming to a new development by the Charles River.

According to a web page within the Arsenal Yards website, Sweetgreen is coming to the development, with a page saying that it will be "opening soon." The upcoming outlet will join a number of other locations in the local area while also joining a variety of dining spots at Arsenal Yards itself, including Ben & Jerry's, Chipotle, City Works, Cuppa Coffee, Garbanzo, Pepe's, Shake Shack, and several other places that will be opening over the coming weeks and months.

A growing chain of dining spots known for its healthy options is opening another location in the Greater Boston area, with this one coming to a growing development in Somerville.

According to a source, Sweetgreen is planning to open a new outlet in Assembly Row, with a Facebook post confirming this, saying that "We're getting ready to welcome sweetgreen to The Row this Summer!" The upcoming location of the chain will join a number of others in and around Boston, though this will be its first shop in Somerville.

Sweetgreen Is Opening in Cambridge's Kendall Square

A growing chain of dining spots known for its healthy options is opening yet another Boston-area location, with this one on its way to Cambridge.

According to its website, Sweetgreen is planning to open a new outlet in Kendall Square, with the Broadway shop joining another one in Cambridge (in Harvard Square) along with a number of others in and around Boston. The chain, which started out in Washington, DC, and is now headquartered in Culver City, California, is known mainly for its salads and grain bowls using seasonal and sustainable ingredients.

Sweetgreen to Open at The Village at Burlington Mall

A growing chain of dining spots featuring salads and grain bowls is expanding to one of the hottest suburbs in the region for dining.

According to a press release, Sweetgreen is opening at The Village at Burlington Mall, a new outdoor "lifestyle center" in Burlington that is coming to the site of the former Sears automotive center. The new outlet of the eatery will be joining a handful of other Sweetgreens in the Greater Boston area--including four other suburban locations in Chestnut Hill, Dedham., Lynnfield, and Wellesley--and it will be one of a few restaurants and food spots at The Village at Burlington Mall, including Caffe Nero (which is now open) and Gyu-Kaku.

Shredded in South Boston Has Closed

A South Boston dining spot that focused on healthy food items has closed after less than a year in business.

According to a source, Shredded on W Broadway is no longer in business, with a Facebook post from the place confirming this, saying that "we, unfortunately, discovered there just wasn't the 'appetite' for our concept as we thought there would be....We hope to bring you a new concept in the near future! Now, on to the next adventure!" Shredded first opened in March, offering several different types of salads along with noodle bowls (including "build your own" bowls), soups, and seasonal items.

Shredded Is Opening in South Boston

It looks like another new dining spot is on its way to South Boston, though very little is currently known about the place.

According to a Twitter post from @stevebikes, Shredded is planning to open on W Broadway, with the address indicating that it will be opening in a space between C Street and D Street a couple of storefronts east of Foodie's Market. A photo of the sign out front shows that it is apparently going to be a salad bar, with the sign simply saying "coming soon" and a reference to a website that isn't working as of yet, though an Instagram page for it is up and running. (As soon as we find out more about the spot, we will post an update here.)

Honeygrow Is Opening in Boston's Seaport District

A Philadelphia-based group of dining spots that opened its first Boston location earlier this month is planning to open another shop in the city, with this one being in a rapidly-growing area by the water.

According to a job post within the Craigslist site, Honeygrow is looking to open in the Seaport District and is currently hiring a kitchen manager for the upcoming outlet on Northern Avenue at Fan Pier. Once it opens, the new eatery will join another on Boylston Street in the Fenway, and based on the other locations, it will likely offer salads with house-made dressings along with stir-fry noodle dishes with meat and veggie options and sauces. No opening date has been given for the new location of Honeygrow as of yet, so keep checking back for updates.

Honeygrow first started out in Philadelphia in 2012.

Philadelphia-Based Honeygrow Is Opening in Boston's Fenway Neighborhood

A Philadelphia-based group of restaurants featuring salads and stir-fry options is going to be expanding to Boston.

According to a press release, Honeygrow is going to be opening on Boylston Street in the Fenway area, with this being the first of multiple locations on their way to New England. The upcoming eatery will offer seasonally-sourced and customizable food items including salads with house-made dressings along with stir-fry noodle dishes with meat and veggie options and house-made sauces. No specific opening date has been given for the Fenway location of Honeygrow yet (it may debut late in the summer), so stay tuned for updates.

Saladworks at the CambridgeSide Galleria in East Cambridge Has Closed

A Pennsylvania-based restaurant chain that once announced it was planning to further expand through the Boston area has disappeared from the local landscape.

According to a source, Saladworks at the CambridgeSide Galleria in East Cambridge is no longer in business, with a check on the chain's website seeming to confirm this, as the shop has been taken off its locations page. This closure--along with the closing of a location on Tremont Street in downtown Boston a few months ago--means that the chain can no longer be found in Massachusetts--or anywhere else in New England.

In February of 2015, the Saladworks chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, though in November of 2015, it was mentioned that they were looking at an expansion that would include a number of shops in the Greater Boston area over the next few years. It is not known at this point in time if these plans are still in place.

Saladworks in Downtown Boston Has Closed

A Pennsylvania-based restaurant chain that features salads, soups, and sandwiches has closed its downtown Boston location, leaving only one remaining in Massachusetts.

According to a Twitter post from @ConciergeBoston, Saladworks on Tremont Street by Government Center is no longer in operation, with a sign out front thanking customers for their business. A check on the Saladworks website shows that the sole remaining shop in the state is at the CambridgeSide Galleria in East Cambridge, with no others found in New England.

In February of 2015, we had reported that the Saladworks chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, though in November of 2015, it was reported that Saladworks was planning an expansion that would include a number of shops in the Boston area over the next three or four years.

Sweetgreen Opens at the Ink Block in Boston's South End

A chain of farm-to-table dining spots that has expanded into the Boston area over the past few years has just expanded even further, this time opening a shop in a growing development just south of downtown.

According to Boston Magazine, Sweetgreen is now open at the Ink Block in the South End, with the eatery having seating for approximately 90, including some outdoor seating on a seasonal patio. The shop joins others in Downtown Crossing, the Back Bay (two), Fort Point, the Fenway, Chestnut Hill Square on the Newton/Brookline border, and at MarketStreet Lynnfield.

Sweetgreen, which is based in Washington, DC, offers seasonal salads and grain bowls using locally-sourced ingredients.

Sweetgreen to Open within Fenway Triangle Trilogy in Boston

A chain of farm-to-table salad spots continues to expand through the Boston area, with a new location coming to a development near the home of the Red Sox.

According to an article in the Boston Business Journal, Sweetgreen is looking to open within the Fenway Triangle Trilogy, a luxury apartment complex wedged between Brookline Avenue, Boylston Street, and Kilmarnock Street that is also home to Sweet Cheeks, Chipotle, Emack & Bolio's, and other businesses. Once it opens, the new eatery will join others on Boylston Street in the Back Bay, the Prudential Center, Congress Street in the Fort Point area, Chestnut Hill Square, and MarketStreet Lynnfield. (Another shop is coming to School Street in Downtown Crossing as well.)

If all goes as planned, the new location of Sweetgreen in the Fenway could be opening in the early summer of 2016.

Creation Opens within Common Market Restaurants Complex in Quincy

A new pizza spot has opened just off the Southeast Expressway, and it resides in a little-known food court that is part of a larger restaurant complex.

According to an email sent by a reader, Creation is now open within the takeout/eat-in section of the Common Market Restaurants on Willard Street in Quincy, joining Healthy Kitchen, The Fish n' Chicken, The Pasta & Pizza Caffe, and The Yogurt Bar. (Three full-service spots within the complex--The Chowder House, Cafe de Paris, and Darcy's Pub--can be found across the street.) Based on information from the reader and the Facebook pages for both Common Market and Creation, the new eatery offers pizza and salads with a "create your own" concept being the focus, and in addition to regular pizzas, the place also serves dessert pizzas as well.

A chain of farm-to-table salad spots has opened its fourth Boston-area location, with this one being in an open-air retail center north of the city.

According to a press release, Sweetgreen is now open at MarketStreet Lynnfield (just north of Route 128 off of Walnut Street), with the eatery joining other locations on Boylston Street in the Back Bay, Congress Street in the Fort Point area, and at Chestnut Hill Square in Newton. The new spot features a variety of salads (including seasonal options), and it also offers "make your own" salads.

In addition to the Lynnfield shop, new locations of Sweetgreen are slated for Boston's Prudential Center and Downtown Crossing as well.

Saladworks to Expand; Multiple Locations Coming to the Boston Area

A Pennsylvania-based restaurant chain that was on shaky ground earlier this year is getting ready to expand--and the expansion includes a number of shops for the Boston area.

The Boston Business Journal is reporting that Saladworks is looking to open as many as a dozen new stores in and around Boston over the next three or four years, with outlets in Burlington and Somerville being a couple of possibilities. Currently, only two shops can be found in the region--one on Tremont Street by Government Center and another at the CambridgeSide Galleria in East Cambridge.

The Saladworks chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February of this year, with the company's problems stemming from what the BBJ calls a "leadership problem" along with a number of lawsuits. The business emerged from bankruptcy in June, with New York-based private investment firm Centre Lane Partners buying out the company and making former Au Bon Pain executive (and Saladworks president) Paul Steck the new CEO.

Saladworks, which first started out in 1986 in Cherry Hill, NJ, currently has more than 100 locations in the United States and other countries. Its website can be found at https://www.saladworks.com/
