Update: bfresh Is Opening in Allston

[Ed note: This article was updated to reflect a name given to the place.]

It looks like a grocery store that focuses on healthy options is on its way to a Boston neighborhood that is also on the verge of seeing a new location of a gourmet market.

The Boston Herald is reporting that Ahold USA, which owns the Stop & Shop supermarket chain, is forming a new company called Fresh Formats LLC that will debut a fresh food market concept somewhere in Allston later this year. The article says that the store appears to be one that will be smaller than a supermarket and focusing on healthy, organic foods at reasonable prices, though little information has been given out by the company at this point in time. The help wanted ads are similar to those of another Ahold company called Everything Fresh, which is located in Philadelphia and offers such items as organic produce, salads with no artificial ingredients, nut butters that customers grind in the store, sandwiches and prepared items, and sushi platters.

[June 30 update: According to a poster on the Chowhound site, the new market will apparently open in the former Staples space at 214 Harvard Avenue.]

[July 30 update: A Licensing Board page within the City of Boston website confirms that the new grocery store will indeed be opening at 214 Harvard Avenue, and it looks like its tentative name is Fresh Formats, which is the same name as the parent company.]

[September 1 update: A press release sent indicates that the market will actually be called bfresh, and that it will indeed be a sister store of Everything Fresh in Philadelphia.]

[September 4 update: A new press release says that bfresh will have its grand opening on September 18.]

[September 6 update: Based on a Facebook post from the place, bfresh is now open.]

As reported earlier here, Allston is also getting a location of Fort Point's Bee's Knees, which will be taking over the former Joshua Tree space on Commonwealth Avenue.
