Frank McClelland of L'Espalier to Open Tides in Essex

An award-winning local chef who owns a nationally-recognized Back Bay restaurant is going to be opening a new dining spot north of Boston.

The Boston Globe is reporting that Frank McClelland of L'Espalier on Boylston Street will open Tides in Essex, with the Dodge Street restaurant overlooking the Essex River (and having "breathtaking views") and including both a fire pit and a wood-burning oven as well as a garden. The article says that the 100-seat dining spot will offer "seaside" food and casual dishes at reasonable prices, including pizza with toppings that come from local farms along with charcuterie, pesto, and more. If all goes as planned, expect a fall opening for Tides, according to the Globe.

L'Espalier has been recognized by such publications as Food and Wine, Gourmet Magazine, and Wine Spectator, with McClelland being a 2007 James Beard Award winner for Best Northeast Chef, according to a page within the restaurant's website.

The address for this upcoming North Shore restaurant is: Tides, 35 Dodge Street, Essex, MA, 01929.
