The Boston Globe is reporting that Chris Lohring has signed a lease for a 5,000-square-foot space on Derby Street in downtown Salem where he will operate Notch Brewing Company. The article says that in addition to the space being used for beermaking, Lohring is also looking to set up a European-style beer garden in a 1,000-square-foot space outside. If all goes as planned, the brick-and-mortar location of Notch Brewing Company could be opening sometime in 2016.
[July 9 update: The Boston Herald gives a bit more information on the space that Notch Brewing Company will be moving into; it will be located at 283R Derby Street behind Brothers Taverna Bar and Grill, which puts it along the South River, as the earlier Globe article said. The Herald also mentions that while there will not be a kitchen, bar snacks such as German pretzels will be offered at the beer garden.]
[April 19, 2016 update: Boston Magazine states that Notch Brewing Company plans to open in July, and that it will have a European-style beer hall that will include (as implied earlier) a patio along the South River.]
[July 15, 2016 update: According to several sources on Facebook, Notch Brewing Company opens its doors tomorrow.]
Up until now, Lohring has been an independent brewer, making his beers at the facilities of three other breweries--Ipswich Ale Brewery in Ipswich, Kennebunkport Brewery in Kennebunkport, ME, and Two Roads Brewery in Stratford, CT.
