The Bedford Minuteman is reporting that town selectmen voted this week to take away the liquor license that was held by the owners of Sparta Restaurant, which shut down in late May. The article says that the board revoked the license based on town rules that say "The closing of the licensed premises for any reason for a period of seven consecutive days or more, or for any 10 days during the calendar year without prior approval of the selectmen shall be deemed to be an abandonment of the license and sufficient grounds of revocation." A new tenant has not yet been found for the former Sparta space, though selectman Michael Rosenberg mentions that the shopping center where the eatery was located has been in negotiations with a couple of restaurants.
Sparta, which first opened in 1976, featured a mix of Greek and American fare.
The address for the former Sparta space is 321 Great Road, Bedford, MA, 01730.
