Owner of Village Smokehouse in Brookline Village Arrested on Arson Charges

The owner of a BBQ spot in Brookline is facing arson charges connected to a fire that destroyed a home.

The Brookline TAB is reporting that Alan F. Kaplan, who owns the Village Smokehouse in Brookline Village, was arrested on Monday for charges related to a fire in 2013 that burned down a mansion on Spooner Road that he had developed. The article says that four indictments were handed down to Kaplan by a Norfolk County Grand Jury, with the most serious being arson of a dwelling which could result in 20 years of jail time if he is found guilty. Kaplan, who is the second person to be brought up on charges related to the fire, pleaded not guilty to the charges yesterday, according to the TAB.

The house, which was built in 2005, had been the subject of a zoning battle between the Zoning Board of Appeals and Kaplan for a number of years.

A pre-trial conference will take place on December 17.
