Team Behind 80 Thoreau in Concord to Open New Restaurant in Boston's Back Bay

The people behind a high-end restaurant in the western suburbs of Boston are planning to open a brand new spot in the city.

Eater Boston is reporting (via a Boston Licensing Board page) that Ian Calhoun, Vincent Vela, and Carolyn Johnson are opening a restaurant on Stuart Street in the Back Bay, taking over the spot where a location of Viga had been until closing this spring. The hearing notice mentions that the proposed eatery will have takeout and counter service on the ground level, the main kitchen on the second level, and seating on the third floor, with a tentative closing time of midnight. EB says that no name has been given for the place as of yet, nor is there a specific concept at this point in time, so keep checking back for updates.

80 Thoreau first opened in the spring of 2011, offering mostly seasonal New American fare. The space had previously been home to Aigo Bistro, Different Drummer, and Cafe L'Orange.

The address for this proposed restaurant in the Back Bay is 304 Stuart Street, Boston, MA, 02116.

[March 15, 2017 update: Eater Boston mentions that the upcoming restaurant from 80 Thoreau will include New England seafood, world cuisine, and tasting menus, and it will have two dining rooms.)]

[June 10, 2017 update: More than a year and a half after first being announced, the sibling of 80 Thoreau has not yet opened in the Back Bay, but a new Craigslist post says that it is opening "soon" and is now looking for kitchen help.]
