China Green in Swampscott Closed After Fire

A North Shore restaurant is shuttered for the time being after it sustained major damage in a fire.

According to an article in the Swampscott Reporter, a blaze hit China Green in Swampscott on Thursday afternoon, with the fire apparently hitting the back wall of the eatery particularly hard (and causing approximately $50,000 in damage to the place) and also damaging an apartment next door. The article says that both the Burrill Street dining spot and the apartment will be off-limits until any necessary repairs have been made. The cause of the fire is not known at this point in time, with both the Fire Investigation Unit and The Board of Health looking into it.

[October 8 update: A new article in the Swampscott Reporter indicates that China Green will be closed for at least several weeks while repairs are being made; the post also mentions that it appears the fire was accidental, with cooking grease being to blame.]

China Green has been in business for about 10 years.

The address for China Green is 203 Burrill Street, Swampscott, MA, 01907.
