Universal Hub is reporting that the now-closed Shanghai Social Club on Commonwealth Avenue is planning to become Hopewell Bar and Kitchen, which would be a neighborhood restaurant and bar that would offer "basic American fare." The space has been empty since Shanghai Social Club shut down last fall, though it was mentioned at the time that owner Doug Bacon was possibly considering a new concept for the site.
Shanghai Social Club first opened in the summer of 2013, taking over the space where Jalapenos and Our House West had once been.
The address for the new Hopewell Bar and Kitchen is 1277 Commonwealth Avenue, Allston, MA, 02134.
[January 29, 2016 update: Eater Boston mentions that Hopewell Bar and Kitchen may be opening in the middle of March, and that it will be a casual neighborhood spot that offers sandwiches and grilled pizza along with a focus on whiskey and bourbon. (EB also says that the place will have pinball machines, shuffleboard, and a pool table.)]
