Wahlburgers Planning to Open within South Bay Town Center in Dorchester

It looks like the Wahlberg brothers may be opening another Boston location of their chain of burger restaurants, and this one would be in their old neighborhood.

The Boston Herald is reporting that Wahlburgers is planning to open within the upcoming South Bay Town Center development in Dorchester, which will be located next to the South Bay shopping center just off the Southeast Expressway. The article says that the Hingham-based company, which is headed up by former Dorchester residents Mark, Donnie, and Paul Wahlberg, hopes to raise $10 million from investors to open the place and that they have already raised $1.36 million. If the new Wahlburgers does become reality, it would be 5,000 square feet in size, according to the Herald.

[May 16 update: It looks like the Dorchester location of Wahlburgers is one step closer to become reality, as the Dorchester Reporter states that the Boston Redevelopment Authority Board has approved of the plans for the South Bay Town Center development. No opening date has been given for the Wahlburgers, though the article says that ground could be broken on South Bay Town Center in June and that it will be finished during 2017 and 2018.]

[August 10 update: According to a tweet from @BosBizCatherine, ground has been broken on the South Bay Town Center development, which will eventually be home to a location of Wahlburgers.]

[September 9 update: A licensing board page from the City of Boston website indicates that the upcoming location of Wahlburgers at South Bay Town Center could have three rooms for dining, including one with seating for 44, another with seating for 32, and a third with seating for 50. The restaurant is also seeking a liquor license and plans to stay open until 2:00 AM.]

Currently, locations of Wahlburgers in the Greater Boston area can be found in Hingham, Boston's Fenway neighborhood, and Lynnfield, and a fourth outlet plans to open at Logan Airport sometime this spring. [Ed note: Now open.] The website for the chain can be found at
