Alumni Is Opening in Weymouth

photo of James's Gate, Jamaica Plain, MAIt looks like a legendary spot for bar pizza is returning to the South Shore, though it will be in a new space.

According to @TheJeffSullivan, who posted a thread within the Quincy Is Everything Facebook group page, the now-closed Alumni Cafe in Quincy's Wollaston neighborhood is being reborn as the Alumni in Weymouth, with the place being under different ownership though with the original Alumni bar pizza recipe. A source tells us that the new Alumni--which will be located in the Shaw's Plaza where Route 53 and Middle Street meet--has a connection to S6 and Rags Tavern in Quincy and the Braintree Brewhouse in Braintree, with those three spots also using the old Alumni recipe. It is not yet known when the new location of the Alumni will open; as soon as we get more information, we will post an update here.

[July 14 update: According to an update from @TheJeffSullivan, the new Alumni in Weymouth plans to open within the next month or so.]

[August 10 update: @TheJeffSullivan tells us that the Alumni is now open in Weymouth, though it appears to be a soft opening with only pizza available for now (the full menu debuts next week).]

The Alumni Cafe, which said farewell to its Hancock Street space in the summer of 2013, was often mentioned among the best of the best for bar pizza spots on the South Shore; our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) considered it to be at around the same level as the landmark Lynwood Cafe in Randolph. The review of the Alumni can be found at this link:
