Commune Kitchen Is Opening in Former Zocalo Space in East Arlington

It looks like a new restaurant is coming to Arlington, and it is opening in the space where a Mexican eatery had been until closing a bit more than a year ago.

The Arlington Advocate is reporting (via reference material related to an upcoming license hearing) that Commune Kitchen is opening on Broadway in East Arlington, taking over the former Zocalo space on Broadway. Based on the application, it appears that the place would be a bistro that offers small plates, pizza, grilled open-faced sandwiches, poutine, pastries, breads, espresso, beer, wine, and more. The article says that Justin Demers and Richard Niedzwiecki are behind the proposed Commune Kitchen, with Demers having worked at Clear Flour Bread in Brookline and Bergamot Restaurant in Somerville in the past.

Zocalo had been in the Broadway space for approximately 10 years before closing in the winter of 2015; before that, it had been called Ole Mexican Grill.

The address for Commune Kitchen is 203 Broadway, Arlington, MA, 02474.
