According to a source late last week, Rainforest Cafe at the Burlington Mall closed over the weekend. with a phone call placed to the dining spot confirming that its last day was Sunday. An article in the Burlington Union indicates that it will apparently not be replaced by another restaurant, as a furniture store is planning to take over the space.
Rainforest Cafe first started out in the mid-1990s in Minnesota and is now headquartered in Texas as part of the Landry's corporation. The chain, which offers mostly American fare and has a rainforest theme that includes animatronic animals, opened its Burlington location more than 15 years ago. The closing of the Burlington outlet means that there are no longer any locations in Massachusetts (or New England), with the closest ones being in New Jersey.
Two other national chains--Bugaboo Creek and Old Country Buffet--recently disappeared from the Boston-area restaurant scene as well, though nearby locations of the former do remain open in Milford as well as in Nashua and Newington, NH.
