According to a press release, Andy Husbands will be opening Smoke Shop in Kendall Square during the last week of June, with the dining spot taking over the space where Tommy Doyle's had been until closing in September of 2014. The new restaurant will offer "competition-style barbecue" that includes such items as seared scallops with bacon and bourbon cherries, Texas-style brisket, burnt ends, beef ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, fried chicken, pan-roasted cod, grilled ribeye, corn bread, bacon collards, butter cake, and more, along with inventive takes on Southern cocktails and one of the largest selections of American whiskey in all of New England.
Andy Husbands, who currently runs Tremont 647 and Sister Sorel in the South End, was once grillmaster at the East Coast Grill in Cambridge and had been in the competitive barbecue scene for nearly two decades with his award winning IQUE BBQ team. (He has also written four cookbooks.)
The address for the soon-to-open Smoke Shop is 1 Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA, 02139.
[June 22 update: Boston Magazine states that Smoke Shop opens to the public for dinner service this weekend, with lunch and takeout being offered starting Monday. (A friends-and-family soft opening is taking place this week.)]
