Kamakura Japanese Restaurant Opening in Downtown Boston

It looks like a brand new restaurant with a roofdeck is coming to downtown Boston, and the person behind it is known for his work at a few other dining spots in the region.

The Boston Hospitality and Tourism Industry blog is reporting (via a licensing board page within the City of Boston website) that Kamakura is looking to open on State Street, moving into the space that Brian Lesser (Tavern Road, Sweet Cheeks Q, Storyville, Alden & Harlow, Naco Taco, Tunnel, Minibar, Vine Brook Tavern) had been looking at earlier this year. The name listed in the hearing notice is Youji Iwakura, who Star Chefs says is currently "ramen master" at Snappy Ramen in Somerville along with such spots as Oishii, Basho, and Uni in the past. [Ed note: Snappy Ramen has been rebranded as Snappy Kitchen.] Iwakura's LinkedIn page indicates that Kamakura will be a modern Japanese restaurant while the hearing notice for Kamakura mentions that it would have indoor seating on the first and second floors along with the aforementioned roofdeck.

The address for this upcoming Japanese restaurant in downtown Boston is: Kamakura, 150 State Street, Boston, MA, 02109.

[November 6, 2018 update: Boston Magazine states that Kamakura opens next week and that it will be a modern Japanese restaurant with elevated takes on traditional dishes, while spanning three floors including a top floor lounge called Kumo that has a retractable roof.]

[November 13, 2018 update: An update from Boston Magazine's article above mentions that Kamakura opens for lunch only today, with dinner service beginning on Thursday.]
