Centre Bar in Dorchester Is Closing to Make Way for New Development

A few days ago, it was learned that yet another Boston dive bar could be closing its doors, and now we have confirmed that this will indeed be the case.

According to an article in the Dorchester Reporter, the Centre Bar on Dorchester Avenue plans to shut down sometime this year, with an earlier article here mentioning that the owner is looking to sell the liquor license to Explorateur, a proposed restaurant coming to the Masonic Temple space near Boston Common. The post says that four new apartments are slated to be built at the site of the bar, with commercial space on the ground floor being part of the plans as well, though it is not yet known what might open in that space.

A number of dive bars and neighborhood watering holes have closed in both Dorchester and neighboring South Boston over the past few years, including the Lower Mills Pub, Sonny's, the Freeport Tavern, Aces High, the Blackthorn, Williams Tavern, the Cornerstone Pub, Kiley's, and the Quencher Tavern..

The address for the Centre Bar is 1664 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, MA, 02122.
