Eater Boston is reporting (via the main Eater site) that Gabriele Bonci is planning to open a Roman-style pizza spot called Bonci in Chicago this June, and if it is a success, he hopes to open a second Chicago shop before looking at Boston, New York, and Philadelphia for a possible further expansion. Bonci is known for his pizza al taglio, which is found in Rome and is baked in rectangular cast-iron pans and served by the slice. A similar style of Roman pizza can be found at one of the takeout stations within Eataly Boston, which also serves round Neapolitan-style thin-crust pizza as well.
Bonci was once labeled "the Michelangelo of pizza" by Vogue, according to Eater.
