Plans Fall Through for Comella's to Open in Pizza Express Space in Winchester

Late last year, we reported that a local group of Italian food retailers and caterers had hoped to open a new location in the northern suburbs of Boston. Now we have learned that this apparently won't be happening after all.

According to a source within the restaurant industry, Comella's has backed out of a deal to buy Pizza Express NY Deli in Winchester, and that Pizza Express remains open in the Main Street space for at least the time being. It is not known whether Comella's will look for a new space in Winchester, nor is it known whether Pizza Express will remain in operation; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

Other locations of Comella's can currently be found in Bedford, Belmont, Chestnut Hill, Concord, Hingham, Marblehead, Melrose, Natick, Needham, Wellesley, West Newton, West Roxbury, and Westwood.

February 19 update: The Winchester Star mentions that Pizza Express indeed plans to remain open and that Comella's apparently "walked away" after a closing of the deal was never quite able to be reached.]
