El Tacuba Cocina & Tequila Bar Plans to Open in Medford

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like a brand new Mexican restaurant is on its way to an increasingly-hot city for dining out.

According to a poster on the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, El Tacuba Cocina & Tequila Bar is planning to open in Medford Square, with the website and social media pages for the eatery confirming that it is indeed coming to Salem Street on the eastern edge of the downtown area. Very little is currently known about the restaurant, including who is behind it, when exactly it might open, and what its menu may include, so stay tuned for updates. (Its website and social media pages simply say that it is opening in 2018.)

A few other new dining spots are on their way to Medford as well, including Pikaichi, which is opening on Boston Avenue, and a restaurant from Jonathan Post of The Porch in Wakefield, which will open at the River's Edge development just north of Wellington Station. [Ed note: Both are now open.]

The address for the upcoming El Tacuba Cocina & Tequila Bar is 35 Salem Street, Medford, MA, 02155. Its website will be at https://www.eltacuba.com/

[March 13 update: Eater Boston states that Alvaro and Andres Sandoval, who are the brothers behind Tenoch in Medford, Boston, and Somerville, are behind El Tacuba Cocina & Tequila Bar. The post says that the place will be a full-service restaurant unlike the fast-casual locations of Tenoch, though the menu has not been set up yet--and there is no specific opening date--so keep checking back for more updates as they come in.]

[September 19, 2019 update: A poster on Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants indicates that El Tacuba is planning to open in late November.]
