50Kitchen Is Opening in Dorchester's Fields Corner

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like a new restaurant is on its way to Dorchester, and part of its focus will be on helping the local community.

According to both an email sent and an article from Eater Boston, 50Kitchen is planning to open in Fields Corner, with the Dorchester Avenue eatery being a fusion-style dining spot that includes southern-style food with Asian influences. An events page indicates that a fundraising popup will take place at home.stead bakery & cafe in Fields Corner on Saturday, July 14, which will include a special sampling menu from 50Kitchen chef/owner Anthony Caldwell.

In addition to being a restaurant, 50Kitchen also looks to work with local shelters to fight hunger, while also mentoring children on the daily operations of dining spots.

Currently, Anthony Caldwell runs a catering business and also offers private chef services out of his space at 1450 Dorchester Avenue, according to Eater. The website for the restaurant (which will apparently be at that site) can be found at http://www.50kitchen.com

[June 14, 2019 update: 50Kitchen could be one step closer to opening by next week, as a licensing board hearing is expected to take place on June 19 that will look into its request for a common victualler license.]

[January 24, 2020 update: A message sent to us indicates that 50Kitchen will soft-open next week, with a grand opening expected to take place in February.]

[January 29, 2020 update: Boston Magazine states that 50Kitchen opens today with a limited menu and limited hours, with regular hours coming February 4.]
