A new spot featuring karaoke could be opening in Allston, and it would be taking over the space where a Mexican restaurant had been.
Universal Hub is reporting that the person behind Limelight Stage + Studios by Boston Common is planning to open a similar karaoke bar in the former Patron's space on Brighton Avenue in Allston Village. The article says that the proposed place, which does not yet have a name, has the support of the mayor's office, a local city counselor, and the Allston Civic Association, but while they did receive approval for a variance from the zoning board for karaoke, they still need approval of licenses for food and alcohol from the licensing board. Owner Henry Wong mentions through his attorney that a stage would need to be added to the space, with this being the main change to the space.
Patron's and the Sunset Grill & Tap downstairs both closed toward the end of last year, several months after their parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The address for this proposed karaoke bar would be 138 Brighton Avenue, Allston, MA, 02134.
[February 6, 2019 update: According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, the name of the company opening the karaoke bar in the former Patron's space is Stage Karaoke, LLC, and while the DBA is missing from the notice, it looks like the name of the place could also be called Stage Karaoke. (The hearing is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 13, so more should be known by late next week.)]
