A local group of pizzerias that shut down a number of shops last fall after declaring bankruptcy--and was subsequently sold--has closed seven more of its locations.
According to several sources, including an article in boston.com, Papa Gino's has shut down outlets in Brockton, Framingham (2), Melrose, Natick, Wilbraham, and Seabrook, NH, with the post indicating that no more closings are expected from the chain. Papa Gino's closed more than 50 locations in November and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and PGHC Holdings, which also owned D'Angelo's, sold both chains to Wynnchurch; both Papa Gino's and D'Angelo's now have a new parent company called New England Authentic Eats. The boston.com article says that changes are on the way to Papa Gino's, including new menu options, upgrades being made to the outlets, beer and wine being reintroduced, and new shops coming to higher traffic areas.
Papa Gino's started out in the 1960s in East Boston.
