Ilona Opens in Former Parish Cafe Space in Boston's South End

A brand new Mediterranean restaurant has opened in the South End of Boston, moving into the space where a location of a sandwich shop/cafe had been.

According to multiple sources, Ilona has been in the process of soft-opening on Mass. Ave. in the former Parish Cafe space over the past several days, with Susan Tran of NBC 10 Boston mentioning that the place appeared to be fully open when she went last week. A Facebook thread within the South End Community Board Facebook group shows that the new restaurant features Eastern Mediterranean fare including such items as crispy eggplant, halloumi, sardines, octopus, mussels, hummus, shish kebab, roasted lamb, grilled fish, and a couple of different flatbreads. As mentioned here earlier, the people behind Ilona appear to be connected to two other South End spots--New York Pizza and Kava Neo-Taverna.

The South End location of The Parish Cafe closed last summer after being in business for approximately eight years; the Back Bay location on Boylston Street remains in operation.

The address for Ilona is 493 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, MA, 02118. Its website will be at http://www.ilonasouthend.com/
