Mariel Is Opening at Post Office Square in Boston

[Ed note: This article was updated on September 13 to reflect a name change.]

A couple of years ago, it was reported that the group behind three well-known Boston dining spots was looking to open a restaurant that could include a cigar bar. Now we have learned that plans for the space have apparently changed into something that could be literally much bigger.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, a restaurant tentatively called La Sirena is going to be opening at 10 Post Office Square in the city's Financial District, with the place possibly being on three floors and including a dining room, bar, lounge, and stage on the first floor, a bar, lounge, and stage on the lower level, and a small space on the mezzanine level whose plans are currently unknown. An earlier Boston Magazine article mentioned that the place may have Cuban influences, and as mentioned here, the COJE Management Group (Lolita, Ruka, Yvonne's) is behind it.

Boston Magazine says that a late summer opening is planned for the new restaurant.

[September 13 update: A post within the jobs section of bostonchefs.com indicates that a name change has taken place and that La Sirena will be called Mariel instead, and it hopes to open around the end of the month (and it will indeed be a Cuban spot).]

[September 30 update: Boston Magazine states that Mariel opens this evening.]
