The Hungry I in Boston's Beacon Hill Has Closed

A few months ago, it was learned that a nationally-recognized Beacon Hill restaurant was up for sale, and now we have learned that it appears to have shut down.

Based on a check on the place this week--including phone calls no longer being answered during dinner service and reservations no longer being accepted online, it appeared that The Hungry I on Charles Street was no longer in operation, with a message from the Beacon Hill Civic Association confirming that it has indeed closed. Back in May, it was reported that the restaurant and its building went on the market with its price including its liquor license and entertainment license, but it is not known if it has actually been sold and/or what might become of the space.

The Hungry I, which had been run by Peter Ballarin since 1981, received both local and national recognition over the years, including from TimeOut Boston, USA Today, and Zagat.

The address for The Hungry I was 71 Charles Street, Boston, MA, 02114.
