Friendship BBQ Is Replacing Hot Eastern in Boston's Chinatown

A restaurant in Boston's Chinatown known in part for its spicy dishes is becoming a new spot that focuses on barbecue items.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, Hot Eastern has petitioned to change its name to Friendship BBQ, with the hearing notice indicating that it may remain under the same ownership, though this has not been confirmed as of yet. (A new manager is not mentioned, nor is a new parent company.) Hot Eastern features spicy versions of such options as dumplings, hot pot, tofu with veggies, sauteed green beans, beef tripe, and more; a menu for Friendship BBQ has not been seen yet, so keep checking back for updates on the place.

The address for Hot Eastern (and the upcoming Friendship BBQ) is 40 Harrison Avenue. Boston, MA, 02111. The website for Friendship BBQ will be at http://friendshipbbqboston.com/

[January 17 update: According to a source, Friendship BBQ is now open, with its website indicating that this appears to be a soft opening. In addition, the website mentions that the new spot features BBQ skewers of meat.]
