Source to Replace Cambridge 1 in Harvard Square

[ed note: This article was updated to reflect new information given about the restaurant replacing Cambridge 1.]

It looks like a pizzeria in Harvard Square that has been around for more than 15 years has closed its doors and a new restaurant will be moving into its space.

According to a tweet from @K8_Bowers, Cambridge 1 on Church Street is no longer in business, with a note out front thanking its guests for their patronage. Phone calls to the pizza spot this afternoon are going unanswered, though its website remains up and gives no indication that the place has shut down.

Cambridge 1, which first opened in Harvard Square in 2002, was known for its grilled pizzas; a second location opened in Boston's Fenway neighborhood approximately five years later but closed in 2011 and was replaced by Sweet Cheeks, a barbecue restaurant from Tiffani Faison.

The address for Cambridge 1 in Harvard Square was 27 Church Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138.

[December 30 update: Cambridge Day mentions that a new restaurant called Source is planning to open in the former Cambridge 1 space; no information has been given on that spot as of yet, so stay tuned for more updates.]

[February 28, 2020 update: According to a post within the harvardsquare.com site, Source will be a gastropub and pizza bar with a wood-fired oven, and Daniel Roughan of Big Night Entertainment Group will be behind the place; the post mentions that the restaurant will open in the spring, though no specific opening date has been given as of yet.]

[September 9, 2020 update: A press release states that Source will focus on food items using locally-sourced ingredients, with small plates, pasta, wood-fired pizzas, and house-made desserts being on the menu along with "twists" on classic cocktails. In addition, the dining spot will have an I-Wave air purification system as part of their HVAC, which the release says is "proven to eliminate multiple airborne pathogens including COVID-19, making their air some of the cleanest in the country.]

[November 17, 2020 update: A new press release indicates that Source will be a gastropub and pizza bar and that it plans to open on Saturday, November 21 at 4:00 PM.]
